GTA: Chinatown Wars

When GTA: Chinatown Wars DS was announced at the E3 games show in 2008, the audience were very surprised. Nintendo have not encouraged any game of with such adult content as GTA DS on the console. It seemed especially surprising news as it was mixed in with fairly cheesy stories about how the host had been snowboarding with family and broke her arm, leading to an announcement about Shaun White: Snowboarding, then the ridiculously cheesy Wii Music.

The brief announcement of GTA: Chinatown Wars was the only relief from an otherwise disappointing Line-up of future products for Nintendo Consoles.

It was some time before any further information became available on the GTA DS. There were lots of rumours about how the game would work. Many suspected the series would revert to its top-down 2D routes. On the 17th of November the first screenshots were released by Rockstar. These images show that the game is played in full 3D and use cell-shaded graphics to give the game a stylish, although less realistic look.

The cell-shaded looks in GTA: Chinatown Wars is a wise chose since the Nintendo DS would struggle to pull off the realistic graphics found in the PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and even PS2 editions of the Grand Theft Auto series.

Many fans of the series were worried that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on DS may tone the level of adult content down to help Grand Theft Auto DS fit in better with other games on the system. Thankfully Rockstar have stated that they would not be happy doing this and Nintendo never asked them to produce GTA: Chinatown Wars DS for kids.

Chinatown Wars

As if there isn’t already enough information about Chinatown Wars, there is a new page up on the site which gives you a great introduction to what the game and all the excitement is about if you don’t already know. The fact you found this website by searching for it suggests you already know a more than nothing about it and will probably not need to read the page, but if you really don’t know anything about it, take a look at our new Chinatown Wars page and pick up a few basic idea of what the game is all about. There’s a few piece of information on the page about how the drug dealing section of the game works which is covered in slightly more depth than any other page of the site as I now have more information about it to put on here.

GTA DS

GTA DS is one of the most anticipated games ever released on the Nintendo DS. Part of the reason for this is lack of games on the console which are aimed at a mature audience. Most Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi console games have a child friend or family feel to them. Because of this older gamers are excited about the chance to play a more edgy game. This excitement around GTA DS is similar to when the Grand Theft Auto was first released in the late 90s, since there had never been a game which featured scoring systems such as earning points for killing innocent civilians or missions where the player must aid in drug deals.

GTA: China town Wars

GTA: China Town Wars features several mini-games. Rockstar stated that they had an interested in bringing the GTA series to the DS and Nintendo DSi Console since they could incorporate the systems interactive elements in new ways into GTA: China town Wars. One way the unique controls of the DS are used is the stylus on the touch screen. This allows players to interact with the game world of GTA: Chinatown Wars DS in a way that isn’t possible in home console and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto games. This makes Grand Theft Auto DS an game which is unique from the rest of the series.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Mini-games feature in many Nintendo DSi console games because of the unique controls. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is no exception. At the time of writing there are few details about GTA: Chinatown Wars DS to go on but there will be a mini-game based on buying and selling drugs for profit. This is similar to certain drug dealing based games available online since the early 2000s. The drugs on offer in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars are Heroine, Coke Ecstasy, Acid, Weed and Downers.

Grand Theft Auto DS

When it is released, Grand Theft Auto DS is certain to cause some media uproar. GTA games always cause some controversy but GTA: China town Wars is expected to cause a little more media hysteria than usual. One reason for the outcry is that the Nintendo DSi console and original DS are seen mostly as a child friendly games machine. There is bound to be some newspapers (i.e. the Daily Mail) that worry about children buying the game when they would not have normally because they only own a console which had until now kiddie-friendly games or something equally ridiculous. Another reason for Grand Theft Auto DS to cause controversy is the heightened involvement in drug dealing in this instalment.

GTA: Chinatown Wars Release Date

The release date of GTA: Chinatown Wars DS was originally set for the end of January 2008 in the UK but has since been pushed back into the second fiscal quarter which runs from February to April. GTA: Chinatown Wars DS is far from being the first Grand Theft Auto game which is delayed. GTA IV was delayed many times before it had its final release. However, it is important to keep in mind that when they do release their games, Rockstar always delivers very high quality and never disappoint and you can bet that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will not disappoint. GTA DS is sure to be a fantastic edition to the series.
